PSPJapanese Sales Data Week Ending March 27, 2011
This week’s Japanese bestsellers list will likely be filed under “Why We Should Continue To Re-release Remakes of Final Fantasy Games” at Square Enix. The latest collection, the PSP release of Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection – containing Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years – is this week’s top game in Japan.
More than 100,000 copies of the FFIV collection sold during week one in Japan. (PSP owners in North America get it on April 19, by the way.) That’s more than enough to best the week’s other new debut, Gundam the 3D Battle for the Nintendo 3DS. That software victory for Square Enix gave the PSP a boost this week, coming within spitting distance of the newly launched 3DS. For the rest of the top 20 best-selling games in Japan for the week of March 21 to 27, courtesy of Media Create, read on.

This past weekend, the Nintendo 3DS officially launched (in Japan), moving more than 350,000 units in just two days on the market. Not bad! Nintendo 3DS games managed to sell pretty well too, with the latest Professor Layton game performing better than anything else for Nintendo’s new portable. But it wasn’t the week’s most popular game.
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask sold nearly 120,000 copies during its debut, enough to nab third place. The top two spots were occupied by two PSP games, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and SD Gundam G Generation World. Looking through the rest of the top ten, almost everything is new, thanks to strong sales of Nintendo 3DS games, a new Disgaea and a new Idolmaster. Komami's latest YuGiOh Champ Series game, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus, debuts at a respectable 18th place. Here are the bestselling games in Japan for the week of February 21 to 27. Welcome, Nintendo 3DS games.

The Monster Hunter dynasty continues its proud rein in Japan this week with the latest entry in Capcom's beast slaying sensation managing to win over more PSP fans to its brand of hack and slash action.
It may have had something to do with the fact that only one key release managed to sell well enough in Japan to crack the top ten. That would be Square Enix's SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha - Shadow or Light for the Nintendo DS. Slow releases means one thing — the chart is dominated by "evergreen" Nintendo releases like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit Plus. Finally, those Wii games are getting some recognition! Below are the bestselling video games in Japan for the week of January 3 to 9, 2011, according to sales tracker Media Create.

Unsurprisingly, Pokémon Black / White took the #1 spot on the chart, followed by New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Total sales take a dive from #3 onward, with Final Fantasy XIII selling close to 2 million copies. |
